Doug Trump – Margaret Thatcher Projects

I went to Art on Paper Fair  2017, because a friend, Doug Trump from Marlboro, Vermont was included in the exhibition.  85 galleries are showing work of artists from all over the world. From three-dimensional sculptures made out of paper to traditional works, the show surprises, Filled with lesser known artists and reasonable prices, the Paper Fair lives up to its promise:  seeing work you’ve never seen before.  The Fair has a kind of party atmosphere; live band, wine and beer and gallery owners who want to engage with you.  This post is a snap shot of some of the work that caught my eye.

Pablo Lehman
The Scribes House
“The Scribe’s House a site-specific installation by Pablo Lehmann at Art on Paper New York 2017.  The Scribe’s House portrays the imaginary space of a living room inhabited by a writer.  In this house the torn texts of old books drape each crevice and corner of the room, wrapping the walls, floors, and furniture in its entirety. Inside the room the text and words that exist within the books are much more than content in a space, they are layered, in an almost baroque treatment, to build a physical structure, to shape its form and represent the foundation of the place.”

Tahiti Pehrson
The Fates 2016
“Installation of work from The Journey of Light, a site-specific installation at Viacom’s Iconic Times Square location in partnership with Art At Viacom.  Made from 100% cotton rag paper made by Legion Paper meticulously hand-cut using 11,083 X-ACTO blades.  The Fates is composed of 17-foot towers.”

Timothy Paul Myers in collaboration with Andrew Barnes
the living room 2016
presented by Walter Maciel Gallery
“The living room is a site-specific wall installation recreating an interior living space complete with fireplace mantle, reading chair, hanging lamp, stacks of books and vases of flowers all covered in the same monochromatic gray felt.  The objects are life size and are presented as if the wall was copied from an existing home.”
