60% of the population of Iceland live in Reykjavik. It’s a city in transition. Building on a large and small scale is everywhere. Visitor numbers are up 59% and the economy is buoyant. The 340,000 natives are now outnumbered by the annual tally of US visitors. I am one of those visitors.
People say Reykjavik is over crowded. If you never get off the main drag, tourists are everywhere. II like the side streets and those off-beat neighborhoods where tourists dare not go.
