PHYLLIS ODESSEY

dead heads

I like to go to cemeteries in other countries. Denmark cemeteries are tidy… well kept.  It’s a reflection of the culture.   In Iceland I didn’t know what to expect.  And it’s hard to make a judgement based on one cemetery. As we were driving along I noticed a beautiful church. Wood inside, corrugated metal on the outside.  Corrugated metal seems to be the medium of choice for buildings as well as churches.  This church, Hveragerdiskirkja (Hveragerdi Church) is in the town of Hveragerdi, literally Hot Spring Place.

Here are some of my favorite graves.

The caretaker.

The church and cemetery are surrounded by a stone wall made out of lava stone.
